What I Wore: Colored Skinnies

Monday, March 26, 2012

So did everyone see The Hunger Games? I thought it was innnnnsane. I'm waiting for my brother to get up so I can gab about it with him. Bah. So good.

Anyway, I declared this last weekend "The Weekend of the Skinnies!" Because I basically lived in them. I posted my yellow pants on the Facebook page -- I wore those on Thursday -- then I dragged out the red skinnies for the movie.

If you missed it, here's my yellow skinny outfit.

I hate camera phone pics but I was home alone so you'll have to deal.
Chambray: Papaya
Skinnies: Local boutique
Socks: Target
Boots: Frye
Necklace: Buckle
Crap on the floor: My bathrobe

Then here's my spin with the reds.

Top: Buckle and c/o mod bod
Blazer: f21
Pants: Same local boutique as the yellows
Wedges: Full Tilt YAYYYY wedge weather!
Earrings: Charlotte Russe

OMG, you guys, check out my hair. I did it as my homage to the movie.

I didn't want to do the whole Katniss braid but something along the same line. Easy peasy.

So I'm officially addicted to the colored skinnies, even if my hubby told me that the yellow ones made me look like Willy Wonka.

A super fashionable Willy Wonka, maybe.

I'll take it. This is coming from a man who once described his favorite color as "neutral."

I love them!! If skinnies didn't make me look like a freak, I would be jumping on this trend.. especially with boots!

The boots are nice because it tones them down a bit. Seriously, it's the easiest way to wear 'em.

I want colored skinnies, but 1) I'm pregnant and getting bigger by the day, and 2) it's already way too hot to continue wearing pants for much longer. You think there will be a trend of colorful bermuda length shorts?

LOVED Hunger Games and almost did a little braid for it, too! No lie, I thought of you and was like, "I bet she'd approve." But then I ran out of time and didn't end up doing it. During the movie I do have to admit that there were times where my pregnant emotional state made me think, "Wow, this was a lot less disturbing in my imagination." But I still loved it.

The skinnies look adorable on you, definitely not Willie Wonka :) I loved the movie too!

Colored pants are difficult for me. Red not so much, but when I try to make a set on Polyvore using pastel pants, I feel like it becomes very Golden Girls. And as a child of the 80s, that frightens me.

You look lovely! And I'm jealous of your hair.

I love the red !! SUPER CUTE. And I'm definitely going to try those braids. My hair is so BLAH; I'm always looking for something new to try... :)

For the hair, I just pulled my hair into a half pony and then braided a little section on either side by my ears. I then pulled them across to opposite sides and pinned. voila! SUper easy.

Nora, I hear ya on the Golden Girls. I can totally see that. That's why I like them with really plain stuff, like an oversized white tee. Betty white would wear 'em with florals. lol

Nat, I've already seen colored bermudas in my adventures. Gonna be big. And YES Hunger Games was way more disturbing in real life. I was SO tense the entire movie.

I need to know which local boutique you're talking about, because I'm local, too and on the hunt for a few pairs of colored skinnies!

How old is too old for red skinnies? I got some and love them, but I'm a little paranoid when I wear them. it always seems like people are staring at my legs. I know, I'm weird!

Jenna, here's the link to where I bought them. Check on my Facebook page too -- I listed a couple of other places I saw them :)

Elizabeth, the first few times I wore them I felt like a stood out too, but seriously, don;t put an age limit on them. I think you'll see them go even more mainstream so they're less uncommon. Also, where you live matters too... lol. I stand out here in uber-conservative Utah, but I'd fit in just about anywhere else lol.

I think the yellow is cute, but I absolutely adore the red, especially with the blazer and blouse you paired it with. Stunning. And I love the braids too. I'm seeing Hunger Games this weekend (I'm a super fan, seriously read the books every 6 months. lol) and I think I'll steal your braid idea. :) We live in Germany but are moving to Arizona this summer. I am anxiously anticipating all the shopping I'm going to do when we're there! Definitely going to find me some red skinnies.

I think you are great, Jae, so I must be real with you. I love the red skinnies and the yellow skinnies, but the tucked in shirt with the yellows gave you a bit of a muffin top. I think the tucking in hurt your cause for the Willy Wonka argument as well. Can we still be friendS?

Jae said...

lol only the front was tucked in... the sides are the shirttails hanging out.

But I'm going to go drown myself now.

In ice cream.

Justin said...

Trust me.. There's no muffin top. I've seen you naked. You could also eat a gallon of ice cream and it wouldn't matter. Metabolism of a gazelle.

Jae said...

Aaaand that's my husband. Not a random man who has seen me naked.
